People interested in travel

As a staff reporter/photographer for The Florida Times Union Shorelines since 2002, I have written stories about just about every topic under the Beaches sun. I specialize in feature stories and events, especially human interest pieces and activities that are action packed and offer great pictures. I also have a monthly travel column called Beach-breakaways, in which I profile fun places to go within an 8 hours drive of the Jacksonville area. Those columns also include lots of photos. I enjoy writing positive stories that inspire, inform and educate readers. I've lived in Ponte Vedra Beach since 1991, so I enjoy writing about my community, which is all of the Beaches. I write about Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Mayport and the west Beaches area.

Hi, I'm Christina Abel. I am the Ponte Vedra Beach reporter for the Florida Times-Union Shorelines newspaper. Our editions come out on Wednesday and Saturday. Obviously news happens on the other days of the week too, so this web site will allow me to update readers on news and information between our print editions. I've been a reporter here for 2 1/2 years. I received my bachelor's degree from Ripon College in Wisconsin. Upon graduation, I worked at the Merrill Lynch headquarters in New York City in the Employee Communications department. I attended graduate school at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University. After I graduated I had a six week internship at the business section of the Florida Times-Union and was subsequently hired at the Shorelines. The rest is history!

I am President of Beaches Watch, Inc. a non-profit citizen advocacy group focused on quality of life issues for the northeast Florida beaches communities of Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach. Our organization strives to preserve our beaches quality of life by monitoring local issues, encouraging citizen participation and promoting community awareness. I am also Alpha Dog for the Friends of Paws Park, a volunteer organization that works in conjunction with Jacksonville Beach Parks and Recreation to manage, maintain and improve Jacksonville Beach's only public dog park, Paws Park at Wingate Park on Penman Rd. South.

My world revolves around music, photography and travel. I live at the beach and enjoy meeting new people. I try to experience life from all perspectives and to the fullest whenever possible. Through photography and poetry, my passions are captured and shared with the world. Fine art landscapes and concerts capturing nature's beauty and human emotion are my specialties.
