SCAD Art Camp offers an enjoyable and educational adventure for young people. Campers benefit from a compelling core curriculum designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the arts. Through age-appropriate projects, your child is inspired to create original works of art and learn the basic elements and principles of the visual arts. SCAD instructors will design workshops for both art enthusiasts and those who have a desire to pursue an education in fine arts.

June 16 - June 20 Character Design Professor Charles Shami Learn the ropes of character design from an industry experienced game designer and SCAD Professor. Participants will learn the fundamentals of character design, and how to create concept character sheets and clay marquette as done in the game industry.
June 16 - June 20 Introduction to 2D Animation Professor Tina O'Haley Attendees explore the basic principles of animation. Using traditional pencil and paper animation methods students will learn to animate a bouncing ball of multiple weights and explore moving a character all while telling a story. Attendees will leave the class with their drawings and a CD with their animation results.
August 4 - August 8 Drawing Studio: The Figure Professor Stephani Joseph The workshop with allow the students to explore the fundamentals of figure drawing, beginning with the basics of sighting and measuring and simple structural anatomy. A variety of drawing techniques will be used. The students will complete this workshop with a portfolio of gesture poses and some longer sustained poses, which will serve as portfolio pieces. The workshop is ideal for students interested in animation, fashion design, illustration sequential art and painting. There will be class critiques and workshop discussions to help the student progress and achieve their goals.
August 11 - August 15 Portrait Drawing Professor Maher Yacoub The creation of a portrait is considered one of the most interesting and challenging areas for artists. This course will teach methods to create correct proportions and illusions of reality in a short time. Render the head in mass and value instead of line; gain essential knowledge of anatomy; cultivate design and compositions. Understand principles of light and shadow and how it moves across forms. If time allows explore the language of COLOR as it applies to the portrait.
Complimentary workshop for all class attendees - Get helpful portfolio tips from the experts during this workshop on Tuesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. Learn helpful tips on preparing a dynamic portfolio! This session presents the fundamentals of successful portfolios and what the Savannah College of Art and Design review committee looks for in portfolio submissions. The presentation will address: * Visual, media, and performing arts * Writing elements * Artistic elements * Guidelines for inclusion * Presentation quality * Additional aspects of portfolio preparation The session will include visual examples of portfolios, including those meriting past scholarships. Students, educators and counselors are welcome to attend.
