Top 3 Mascot Choices: the Pirates, the Patriots, or the Sharks

Those are the three mascots a committee is deciding between for the new high school being built just west of the Palm Valley Bridge, where most Ponte Vedra Beach public school students will go.

At a meeting Wednesday night at Landrum Middle School, a 30-member committee chose the top three mascots that were voted for in an online poll that Principal Craig Speziale conducted. The poll quizzed people on school names, mascots and colors. The School Board will ultimately choose the name of the school.

The top five school names the committee selected in a previous meetings are: Ponte Vedra High School, Ponte Vedra Beach High School, Ponte Vedra LeMaster High School, LeMaster High School and Intracoastal High School. Those will be narrowed down to three choices and given to the School Board.

Even though the School Board will choose the name of the school, the committee, made up of students, parents and other community members, will choose the mascot and school colors.

In the online poll, 78 people of about 800 chose the Pirates as the school’s mascot, 63 chose the Sharks and 56 chose the Patriots. At Wednesday’s meeting, the committee members stuck with the top three poll choices for mascots.
